Silica is a thickener that can also be found in a wide variety of cosmetics and personal care products. It is also called "silicon dioxide." In our products, we use silica to help a product maintain a gel-like texture. In certain products, it also works as anti-settling agent by preventing particles from precipitating out.
Butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) is a stabilizer that can also be found in cosmetics and moisturizers. It acts as an antioxidant – we use it to help maintain the properties and performance of a product as it is exposed to air. European and U.S. regulators have approved BHT for use in food. Some concerns have been raised over its use as a food additive, however our products containing BHT are not intended for ingestion, so we feel that its use is acceptable.
Polysorbate 20 is an emulsifier that can also be found in moisturizers, makeup and shampoo. It helps bind ingredients together and keep a formula from separating. In fragranced products, it also helps ensure even distribution of the fragrance. Adding emulsifiers helps ensure that our products provide the same performance use after use.
