Multi-Year Accessibility Plan

Introduction and Statement of Commitment

This Multi–Year Accessibility Plan (the “Plan”) applies to both S.C. Johnson & Son, Limited and S.C. Johnson and Son Manufacturing, ULC (collectively, “SCJ”).

SCJ is committed to developing an inclusive, barrier-free environment that is guided by the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (Ontario) (the “AODA” or the “Act”) and the related Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulations (the “IASR”), which include dignity, independence, integration (except when alternate measures are necessary to meet the needs of people with disabilities) and equal opportunity.

The Plan covers a five-year period (2020-2025), to align with our strategic plan. It will be reviewed at the end of that period of time, or sooner if necessary to address any changes in SCJ’s accessibility-related compliance obligations.

Establishment of Accessibility Policies and Plans

In addition to this Plan, SCJ has developed, implemented and maintains a policy governing our commitment to accessibility and how the organization will achieve accessibility.

The Policy and Multi-Year Accessibility Plan are available to the public and available in accessible formats, upon request.


SCJ has developed a procedure to provide training on the requirements of the AODA and on disability-related obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code, to Ontario-based employees (including non-Ontario based employees who participate in developing SCJ’s policies applicable to accessibility or impacting persons with disabilities), volunteers, and any others who may be acting on SCJ’s behalf in dealing with the public or any other third parties in Ontario. SCJ maintains records of the dates when training is completed and the individuals who completed the training.

Information and Communications Standards

a) Accessible Websites and Web Content

SCJ ensures its public internet websites and new content on such websites conform with World Wide Web Consortium Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 Level AA, unless impracticable or an exemption in the Act applies.

b) Feedback, Accessible Formats and Communication Supports

SCJ has established a process whereby it will work with a person with a disability to receive and respond to their feedback in an accessible format. For such requests, please see the contact information at the end of this Plan. In addition, SCJ reviews and updates its feedback processes on an ongoing basis, in order to ensure that we are meeting our accessibility commitments and the requirements of the Act.

Employment Standards

a) Recruitment

SCJ specifies on job postings that accommodations are available for applicants with disabilities and informs applicants selected to participate in an assessment or selection process that accommodations are available during the recruitment process, upon request, in relation to materials and processes to be used. Upon request, SCJ consults with the applicant and arranges for suitable accommodation (to the point of undue hardship); and notifies the successful applicant when making an offer of employment of its policies for accommodating employees with disabilities.

b) Informing Employees of Supports

SCJ informs employees and new hires as soon as practicable of SCJ’s policies to support employees with disabilities and keep employees up to date on changes to these policies. Upon request from an employee with a disability, and further to consultation with the employee, SCJ provides suitable accessible formats and communication supports for information needed by the employee to perform their job, and information that is generally available to employees.

c) Documented Individual Accommodation Plans / Return to Work Process

SCJ has a written process for the development of individual accommodation plans. SCJ has also developed and documented a return to work process for employees who have been absent from work due to a disability; the process outlines the steps SCJ will take to facilitate the employee’s return to work and will take into account the employee’s individual accommodation plan as part of that process.

d) Performance Management, Career Development and Redeployment

SCJ takes into account the accessibility needs of employees with disabilities and individual accommodation plans when implementing SCJ’s performance management processes, considering career development and advancement opportunities and redeploying employees with disabilities.

Customer Service

SCJ is committed to providing its goods and services in Ontario in an accessible manner to all customers, including persons with disabilities, consistent with the principles of dignity, independence, integration and equal opportunity. SCJ encourages open two-way communication and expects persons with disabilities to communicate their need for accommodation and assistance if it is not readily apparent how that need can be met.

(a) Service Animals, Support Persons and Assistive Devices

To the extent permitted by law, SCJ welcomes persons with disabilities who are accompanied by a service animal or a support person on the parts of our Ontario premises that are open to the public and other third parties, and will train our employees accordingly. In areas of SCJ’s premises where animals are not permitted by law, SCJ will consider alternate means of service delivery. Finally, persons with disabilities will be permitted to obtain, use or benefit from SCJ’s services through the use of their own assistive devices provided that they ensure their assistive device is operated in a safe and controlled manner at all times.

(b) Notice of Temporary Disruptions

In the event of a planned temporary service disruption that would limit a person with a disability from gaining access to SCJ’s facilities, goods or services, SCJ will post notice of the service disruption in the affected area and will email employees responsible for sharing the notice with any impacted planned visitors. In the event of an unplanned service disruption, SCJ will accommodate persons with disabilities through other means.
