Isoparaffin is a carrier that can also be found in cosmetics. A carrier does just what it sounds like -- it helps carry a product to a surface by thinning or thickening the formula or simply ensuring even distribution of the other ingredients in the formula. We use isoparaffin because without a carrier, the product would not work with the same consistency across a surface.

Dimethicone is a silicone film former that can also be found in skin lotions, bath soaps and shampoos. Sometimes referred to as “silicone oil,” dimethicone is the most widely used silicone polymer and is particularly known for its ability to smoothly coat a surface and leave it protected, without being sticky. In products that are applied to the skin, dimethicone can also be used as an emollient that helps soften and smooth the skin. In household products, it creates a protective coating or shine on a surface. In our products to protect leather, it helps increase the gloss. Dimethicone also can be a moisturizer. As a moisturizer, it helps prevent a product or surface, like leather, from drying out by helping it retain moisture. This makes it softer and more pliable.

n-Alkyl Dimethyl Benzyl Ammonium Chlorides / n-Alkyl Dimethyl Ethylbenzyl Ammonium Chlorides is an Active Ingredient. An Active Ingredient controls a specific pest in a registered product, such as in an insecticide, antimicrobial or repellent product.

Polysorbate 80 is an emulsifier that can also be found in moisturizers, makeup and shampoo. The food-grade version of polysorbate 80 is one of the most common emulsifiers used in ice cream. It helps bind ingredients together and keep a formula from separating. In fragranced products, it also helps ensure even distribution of the fragrance. We add emulsifiers to our products where needed to ensure that our products provide the same performance use after use.

Sorbitan Oleate is an emulsifier that can also be found in moisturizers, hair-styling products and soaps. It helps bind ingredients together and keep a formula from separating. DMDM hydantoin is a preservative. It helps maintain product quality and performance over time. Some people raise concerns about preservatives, because a small number of individuals have allergies to them just as some people have allergies to nuts or bees. But preservatives play a very important role in food, cosmetics and household products. Without preservatives, many products would not last more than a week or two before being contaminated by bacteria, mold or yeast. So, we feel the best choice is to add preservatives in the smallest effective quantity to protect our products, but to list these preservatives in our formulas so that those with allergies in the family can make informed choices.

Triethanolamine is a pH adjuster that can also be found in makeup products such as mascara, blush and foundation. It alters the pH of a product to improve stability over time. Every formula has an optimum pH to make it work best. For example, a formula that’s more acidic works better for soap scum removal. Its opposite, a formula that’s more alkaline, might be more effective as a carpet cleaner. We use pH adjusters to make sure we achieve the best pH for a particular job. Also, the pH of a formula can affect how long it lasts within a container – for example limiting its tendency to corrode a can, container or dispenser.
