Paraffin is a blend of waxes that is used to form a candle and that provides fuel for the candle as it burns. Paraffin is one of the most plentiful and commonly used waxes today. It can also be found in a wide array of products from lipsticks to eye makeup to baby products. In household products, we use paraffin as a film former to create a protective coating or shine on a surface.

Benzophenone-12 is a stabiliser that can also be found in perfumes and soaps. This ingredient should not be confused with benzophenone-3 (oxybenzone), which some reports associate with health concerns. Benzophenone-12 is different. It acts as an antioxidant – we use it to help maintain the properties and performance of a product as it is exposed to air, light, or heat.

Dimethicone is a silicone film former that can also be found in skin lotions, bath soaps, and shampoos. Sometimes referred to as “silicone oil,” dimethicone is the most widely used silicone polymer and is particularly known for its ability to smoothly coat a surface and leave it protected, without being sticky. In products that are applied to the skin, dimethicone can also be used as an emollient that helps soften and smooth the skin. In household products, it creates a protective coating or shine on a surface. In our products to protect leather, it helps increase the gloss. Dimethicone also can be a moisturizer. As a moisturizer, it helps prevent a product or surface, like leather, from drying out by helping it retain moisture. This makes it softer and more pliable.
